Practised on foot, the stalking fishing is a fishing technique that can be described as mobile. As its name suggests, the principle is to prowl as discreetly as possible along the banks of rivers and streams, using natural baits such as maggot, mud worms, aquatic larvae or others to attract and track fish. Roach, perches, trout are some examples of fish that you can catch using this exciting roaming fishing technique.
The rod
First of all, to practice stalking fishing in the best conditions, your equipment must be as light and space-saving as possible. For the length of the rod, most roaming fishermen will agree that the ideal length is 3 m. However, you have the option of using a longer rod not exceeding 4 m depending on your preferences and the conditions in which you fish. Thus, you have the choice between a telescopic rod with adjustable length or a so-called "dead man's rod".
The reel and the fishing line
When it comes to stalking fishing, the reel that equips your rod should be light, even ultra-light. Investing in expensive equipment is unnecessary since the reel only acts as a line reserve. However, it must be equipped with a rear brake. As for nylon, a fishing line with a diameter of between 16 or 18/100, ideal for natural bait fishing, will be perfectly suited for this technique. Depending on your tastes and habits, you may or may not choose a fluorescent yarn.

Fishing action
Before you start fishing, you should spend some time observing the area to find the best spots. Use this time to test to see how your lure is behaving. For roaming fishing as for other natural bait fishing techniques, the trick is to prospect, slowly and discreetly, each station from downstream to upstream. Whatever you use, make sure you present it as naturally as possible by making sure it follows the direction of the current.
