The Ghost Carp belongs to the Cyprinidae Family. With a life expectancy ranging from 40 to 50 years on average, it can reach up to 80 cm long. The breeding period is short, from May to June. The female lays 100,000 eggs per kg of weight. It can be fished all year.
From its transition from young to adult fish, many physical characteristics will change. Its scales change color over time, as does its size. Many people tend to confuse a young ghost carp with a goldfish because of its physical appearance and colors. However, the two species are distinguishable: the ghost carp has a flat belly while the goldfish has a more swollen belly. In addition, towards her lips we notice barbells similar to two small moustaches in the ghost carp.
The Ghost Carp lifestyle
The Ghost carp are fish that adapt to any type of food offered to them. Fish food such as flakes or granules is generally vegetarian in nature and is very suitable for them.
The Ghost carp can breed for a short period of two months, usually from May to June. They reach sexual maturity when they are 2 - 3 years old. Indeed, they must have reached a minimum size of 35 to 40 cm.
Dimorphism between the male and female ghost carp can be observed in different ways. The female who will carry the eggs has a larger and longer body than the male; she has larger and duller fins than the male.
The female lays her eggs on plants where they will settle. This is why it is essential to put plants such as algae, plants and hiding places within their reach, so that adults do not eat eggs. This allows the eggs to be well fixed and protected.
The Ghost Carp habitat
Like the common carp, the ghost carp enjoy lentic areas, i. e. freshwater ecosystems with little or no current. Thus, when released outside the basins, it is mainly maintained in lakes, ponds and ponds.
It originates from Japan but was introduced in Europe, North America and all over Asia.

The Ghost Carp angling
The Ghost carp fishing can be practiced at any time. It can be fished with a float, a boilie and a spring. It is preferably fished with earthworms, maggots or potato pieces as bait.
When fishing with a float, it is preferable to opt for a "drop of water" float in the shape of a ball or a "tapered" float in the shape of plugs.
When fishing with a spring, just remember to fill the spring or primer with a sticky primer.
As for the boilie fishery, which is described as an ancestral fishery, a net must be set on the shore using a boat. Then bring the net back to shore with a rope and arm strength.
